THE TROLL TROMP

Find the Trolls & hear their tales...

Located at the Bozeman Pond – June 2021

Archie Muziwell - the most famous troll hunter in Montana - held workshops for visitors to learn the basics of troll hunting during the great Troll Tromp of 2021. Archie explained the basics of trolls, troll hunting, and worked with kids to identify troll signs in the park. Mysterious sounds and evidence of troll activity were discovered and examined, and great fun was had by all.

About his Trolls

The goal with my trolls was to encompass a wide variety of styles, looks and techniques all while stretching my creative process to its limits. I think of my trolls as a family in the same sense that a traveling carnival would think of their own. They may all look different but it's their differences that bring them together.

About Dan

I have been creating and crafting with cardboard and other upcycled materials for as long as I can remember. I draw inspiration from my vast love of comics, music, movies, and all things weird. I choose to work with cardboard not only because of its accessibility, but also because I am a firm believer in sustainability. We live in a throw-away culture. My hope is that by repurposing items and crafting with everyday throwaways others will be encouraged to rethink their daily waste habits and together we can all make our world a better place to live in.

About his Trolls

My trolls are inspired by a Danish artist named Thomas Dambo. He makes and installs giant trolls from salvaged wood all over the world. I made my mountain troll family with pallet wood and any scrap wood I could find in the Bozeman area. I've used about 50 pallets to build these rustic sculptures. I started by measuring the location and sketching out a rough idea of what I wanted them to look like. They needed to look natural and interact with their specific environments. They'll be hanging from trees, poking out from under a bridge and somehow floating in the middle of a pond. I built their skeletons first. This gave me a base to attach the boards that would act like skin and give the troll its shape. Figuring out the scale of the big trolls was the trickiest part. Lots of experimenting and tweaking and lots of fun.

About nick

Just a guy from Gainesville, Ga who moved to Montana after college to "live the dream" as my dad would say. The dream for me is living in a town surrounded by mountains and working as an artist. I have a small wood shop in Bozeman, MT where I design and make home accents from reclaimed and other woods.  I also write and illustrate children's books about my lazy but adventurous cat Waffles. So far so good.
