Lichen Lookout

Lichen Lookout

Naturalist Hallie has transformed this former fire lookout tower into her home and nature observation station. She has devoted her attention to stewardship and study of the Bumblewood forest ecosystem. Her lofty home is filled with field samples, botanical specimens and countless journals filled with her observations. On her long rambles through the woods, Hallie often finds injured birds needing a helping hand. With help from Billie Birdsong and his balloon, she escorts them to the Healing Nest where they are cared for until well enough to fly away again.

Jonathan, Kelsi, Nora & August Tjernagel

Together, the Tjernagel family has a huge array of artistic skills. When not building fairy houses, Jonathan is building treehouses and ziplines. Kelsi is making photographs, writing, reading and volunteering with the Gallatin Watershed Council. Nora is sewing, designing costumes with local theatres and reading. August is fencing, biking, playing guitar, building birdhouses, making pottery, reading, and volunteering with the Gallatin Watershed Council. Their fairy village character is inspired by the real life Hallie Dagget who, in 1913, was the first woman hired as a fire lookout by the USFS. You can find Kelsi on instagram and on her website, and Nora on her website.
