Mimi's Menagerie of Memories

by Becky Roberts

Marvelous Mimi was the youngest and most sociable of the Sibylla siblings. A lover of all things bright, sparkly and exciting, she collected magical memories and mementos from important moments in her life. She hosted exclusive yet world famous parties at the Sibylla family home, much to the consternation of her more serious siblings.

Mimi never wanted the party to end. She longed to capture and preserve the fun and excitement of big gatherings and celebrations, but also treasured the small, unexpected delights of everyday life. She built her collection from hundreds of keepsakes and trinkets and (by some mysterious process) was also able to infuse her collection with the very essence of her happy memories.

Great gales of laughter, the tinkle of champagne flutes, evocative scents, and sweet whispered nothings live on within her collection. If you have a smile on your face and a skip in your step after visiting her cabinet, Mimi will have accomplished her ultimate goal: keeping the party going.

Our scientists have made little progress in investigating Mimi’s Menagerie of Memories as they tend to spontaneously break into dance or be overcome with nostalgia or laughter without warning. Research continues.

Becky Roberts is a California native and Montana transplant living in Belgrade. She has always been a maker of sorts. Besides creating assemblage art under the name Box 39, Becky can add retired florist, film school graduate, mom, cat lover, and slinger of vintage clothes to her resume. When not sifting through Mimi Sibylla’s mementos, Becky finds her true passion in assemblage and collage, reimagining the world around her through found (and mostly vintage) objects. She loves thrifting and all things old, and collects bits and bobs for art materials, tacky floral art, cat art, and Pyrex. For more information about Becky and her art, visit her website.
